I’ve been reading The Artist’s Way (yes, I’m having one of those self-discovery moments ), and there’s this exercise called “5 Other Lives” where you imagine different careers you might have chosen.
Here’s my multiverse of professional madness:
1. Bioethicist.
While I’m not officially debating the moral implications of robot consciousness, I do love documentaries on bioethics. No regrets!
2. Neuroscientist.
That didn’t materialize, but I’m that person who gets excited about neuroscience articles at dinner parties.
3. Philosopher.
Yeah, you can laugh at this one! The truth is, I’ve always been a bit of a philosophy nerd. You could quiz me about Nietzsche when I was 15! A couple of years ago, I even translated a very funny book on moral philosophy.
4. Writer.
I’m not doing it full-time, but I am writing a book right now. It’s actually happening, and it’s about having crucial conversations with compassion in the workplace.
5. Podcaster (or something similar that involves interviewing people).
I’m not really into creating a podcast, tbh. But I’m getting my interview fix by talking with leaders for my book.
Here’s what I’m realizing: These “other lives” aren’t just daydreams or failed New Year’s resolutions. They’re actually part of who I am right now, just in disguise and without the student loans.
Your turn! What would be your 5 other lives, and how can you sneak them into your current one?
